We are Ed and Laura Miller, the owners of Sant’ Angelica Azienda Agricole.
We have taken a journey from City and Corporate life in Dublin to a slower, more meaningful existence, one that resonates with nature and simplicity. This has not been easy but has led us to the breathtaking Maremma region of Tuscany—a place we had visited many times over the past two decades but are now able to call home too.
We live in Capalbio, a medieval village in southern Tuscany perched on the hills above the Tyrrhenian Sea, with ancient walls and cobblestone streets. Our beautiful olive farm sits on Garavicchio hill overlooking the sea with views of Capalbio village.
Historically Capalbio sat mid way between the Medici’s of Florence and the Popes in Rome - a position which has defined it over the years. Giacomo Puccini wrote opera here and Caravaggio was born and died nearby after he fell out with his patrons in Florence and Rome! We knew that this historical and beautiful place would be the setting for the next chapter of our lives.
We were introduced to Sant' Angelica by local friends. It is a small farm of 900 olive trees and a house which we have lovingly restored. Bringing Sant' Angelica back to life and embracing the unique coastal environment that infuses our olives with a rich, distinctive flavour has been a labour of love. This process has been about more than producing olive oil; it has been about embracing a life in harmony with nature, where each day is shaped by the earth and the sea.
We knew that this historical and beautiful place would be the setting for the next chapter of our lives.
Sant' Angelica lies in the Maremma region, a hidden gem along Tuscany’s stunning coastline, where history, nature, and tradition intertwine in perfect harmony. Maremma is a landscape of unspoiled beauty, stretching from rolling hills to the azure waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. This land, once wild and untamed, has been lovingly cultivated for centuries, its beauty preserved by generations who understood the delicate balance between the earth and the sea.
The coastal location of Maremma is not just a backdrop; it is a vital character in the story of Sant' Angelica Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The olives here ripen slowly, absorbing the essence of the land - its mineral-rich soils, the scent of wild herbs carried by the wind, and the salinity of the nearby sea. The result is an oil that is rich, complex, and layered with flavours that tell the story of Maremma’s natural and cultural heritage.
Each drop of this oil is a tribute to the nature and tradition of the Maremma, capturing the soul of Tuscany’s coastal paradise in a bottle.
